- Kapitel 3 -

For everything there is a time

To all things there is an appointed time, and a time to euery purpose vnder the heauen.

A time to bee borne, and a time to die: a time to plant, and a time to plucke vp that which is planted.

A time to slay, and a time to heale: a time to breake downe, and a time to builde.

A time to weepe, and a time to laugh: a time to mourne, and a time to dance.

A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones: a time to embrace, and a time to be farre from embracing.

A time to seeke, and a time to lose: a time to keepe, and a time to cast away.

A time to rent, and a time to sowe: a time to keepe silence, and a time to speake.

A time to loue, and a time to hate: a time of warre, and a time of peace.

God's works are eternal

What profite hath hee that worketh of the thing wherein he trauaileth?

I haue seene the trauaile that God hath giuen to ye sonnes of men to humble them thereby.

He hath made euery thing beautifull in his time: also he hath set the worlde in their heart, yet can not man finde out the worke that God hath wrought from the beginning euen to the end.

I know that there is nothing good in them, but to reioyce, and to doe good in his life.

And also that euery man eateth and drinketh, and seeth the commoditie of all his labour. this is the gift of God.

I knowe that whatsoeuer God shall doe, it shalbe for euer: to it can no man adde, and from it can none diminish: for God hath done it, that they should feare before him.

What is that that hath bene? that is nowe: and that that shalbe, hath now bene: for God requireth that which is past.

From dust to dust

And moreouer I haue seene vnder the sunne the place of iudgement, where was wickednesse, and the place of iustice where was iniquitie.

I thought in mine heart, God wil iudge the iust and the wicked: for time is there for euery purpose and for euery worke.

I considered in mine heart the state of the children of men that God had purged them: yet to see to, they are in themselues as beastes.

For the condition of the children of men, and the condition of beasts are euen as one condition vnto them. As the one dyeth, so dyeth the other: for they haue all one breath, and there is no excellency of man aboue ye beast: for all is vanitie.

All goe to one place, and all was of the dust, and all shall returne to the dust.

Who knoweth whether the spirit of man ascend vpward, and the spirit of the beast descend downeward to the earth?

Therefore I see that there is nothing better then that a man shoulde reioyce in his affaires, because that is his portion. For who shall bring him to see what shalbe after him?

Für alles gibt es eine Zeit

Alles hat seine Zeit, alles unter dem Himmel geht vorüber nach seiner Zeit.

Geboren werden hat seine Zeit und sterben hat seine Zeit, pflanzen hat seine Zeit und ausreißen hat seine Zeit.

Töten hat seine Zeit und heilen hat seine Zeit, einreißen hat seine Zeit und aufbauen hat seine Zeit.

Weinen hat seine Zeit und lachen hat seine Zeit, klagen hat seine Zeit und tanzen hat seine Zeit.

Steine auseinanderwerfen hat seine Zeit und Steine sammeln hat seine Zeit, umarmen hat seine Zeit und von Umarmung sich fernhalten hat seine Zeit.

Erwerben hat seine Zeit und verlieren hat seine Zeit, aufbewahren hat seine Zeit und wegwerfen hat seine Zeit.

Zerreißen hat seine Zeit und zusammennähen hat seine Zeit; schweigen hat seine Zeit und reden hat seine Zeit.

Lieben hat seine Zeit und hassen hat seine Zeit, Krieg hat seine Zeit und Frieden hat seine Zeit.

Gottes Werke bleiben ewig

Was hat nun der Mensch für Gewinn von dem, worum er sich abmüht?

Ich sah die Kümmernis, welche Gott den Menschenkindern zuerteilt hat, dass sie sich damit plagen.

Er hat alles wohl geschaffen für eine bestimmte Zeit, und die Welt ihrem Nachforschen überlassen, ohne dass doch der Mensch das Werk zu durchschauen vermöchte, welches Gott von Anfang bis ans Ende vollbringt.

So erkannte ich denn, dass nichts besser ist als sich zu freuen und sich Gutes zu tun in seinem Leben.

Denn jeder Mensch, der isst und trinkt und Gutes genießt von seiner Arbeit, hat dies aus Gottes Gabe.

So erkannte ich denn, dass alle Werke, die Gott tut, auf ewig feststehen, wir können nichts dazu noch davon tun, was Gott tut, dass er gefürchtet werde.

Was geschehen ist, eben das bleibt, was kommen wird, ist schon dagewesen; und Gott erneuert das, was dahingegangen.

Von Staub zu Staub

Ich sah unter der Sonne an der Stätte des Rechtes Gottlosigkeit und an der Stätte der Gerechtigkeit Ruchlosigkeit.

Da sprach ich in meinem Herzen: Gott wird den Gerechten und den Ungerechten richten und dann wird jedes Ding seine Zeit haben.

So sprach ich denn im Herzen zu den Menschenkindern: Gott prüfe sie und zeige ihnen, dass sie den Tieren ähnlich sind.

Darum kommt der Mensch um wie das Tier und ein Schicksal haben beide; wie der Mensch stirbt, so stirbt auch jenes; alle haben gleichen Lebensodem und der Mensch hat keinen Vorzug vor dem Tier; alles ist der Eitelkeit unterworfen

und alles geht dahin an einen Ort; aus Erde ist alles geworden und zur Erde kehrt es wieder zurück.

Wer weiß, ob der Geist der Kinder Adams aufwärts steigt und ob der Geist des Viehes zur Erde niederfährt?

So fand ich, dass nichts besser ist, als dass der Mensch sich an seinem Tun freue und dass dies sein Anteil sei. Denn wer wird ihn dahinbringen, dass er erkenne, was nach ihm sein wird?
