- Kapitel 1 -

(2 Peter 1:1–2)

Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the chosen sojourners of the dispersion of Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,

according to [the] foreknowledge of God the Father, by [the] sanctification of the Spirit, to [the] obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace and peace be multiplied to you!

A Living Hope

Blessed [is] the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who, according to the abundance of His kindness begot us again to a living hope, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ out of the dead,

to an incorruptible inheritance, and undefiled, and unfading, reserved for you in the heavens,

who, in the power of God are being guarded, through faith, to salvation, ready to be revealed in the last time,

in which you are glad, a little now, if it be necessary, being made to sorrow in various trials,

so that the proof of your faith—much more precious than gold that is perishing, and being approved through fire—may be found to [result in] praise, and honor, and glory, at the revelation of Jesus Christ,

whom, having not seen, you love, in whom, now believing [although] not seeing, you are glad with unspeakable joy and have been filled with glory,

receiving the outcome of the faith—salvation of your souls;

concerning which salvation [the] prophets sought out and searched out, who prophesied concerning the grace toward you,

searching in regard to what or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ that was in them was signifying, testifying beforehand of the sufferings of Christ and the glory after these,

to whom it was revealed, that not to themselves, but to us they were ministering these, which now were told to you (through those who proclaimed good news to you), by the Holy Spirit sent from Heaven, to which things messengers desire to look into intently.

A Call to Holiness

(Hebrews 12:14–17)

For this reason, having girded up the loins of your mind, being sober, hope perfectly on the grace that is being brought to you in the revelation of Jesus Christ,

as obedient children, not fashioning yourselves to the former desires in your ignorance,

but according as He who called you [is] holy, you also, become holy in all behavior,

because it has been written: “Become holy, because I am holy”;

and if you call on the Father, who is judging without favoritism according to the work of each, pass the time of your sojourn in fear,

having known that, not with corruptible things—silver or gold—were you redeemed from your foolish behavior inherited from our forefathers,

but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and unspotted—Christ’s—

foreknown, indeed, before the foundation of the world, and revealed in the last times because of you,

who through Him believe in God who raised [Him] out of the dead, and gave glory to Him, so that your faith and hope may be in God.

The Enduring Word

(Isaiah 40:6–8)

Having purified your souls in the obedience of the truth through the Spirit to unhypocritical brotherly love, love one another earnestly out of a pure heart,

being begotten again, not out of corruptible seed, but incorruptible, through a word of God—living and remaining—throughout the age;

because all flesh [is] as grass, and all glory of man as flower of grass; the grass withered, and the flower of it fell away,

but the saying of the LORD remains—throughout the age; and this is the saying of good news that was proclaimed to you.

Gruß an die auserwählten Pilger

(2. Petrus 1,1-2)

Petrus, Apostel Jesu Christi, an die auserwählten Fremdlinge in der Zerstreuung von Pontus, Galatien, Kappadocien, Asien und Bithynien,

gemäß dem Vorauswissen Gottes des Vaters, zur Heiligung des Geistes, zum Gehorsame und zur Besprengung mit dem Blute Jesu Christi: Gnade und Friede werde euch in Fülle!

Ein himmlisches Erbe

Gepriesen sei Gott, der Vater unsers Herrn Jesus Christus, der uns nach seiner großen Barmherzigkeit wiedergeboren hat zu lebendiger Hoffnung durch die Auferstehung Jesu Christi von den Toten,

zu einem unvergänglichen, unbefleckten und unverwelklichen Erbe, welches im Himmel aufbehalten ist für euch,

die ihr durch die Kraft Gottes mittelst des Glaubens bewahrt werdet für eine Seligkeit, welche bereit ist offenbart zu werden in der letzten Zeit.

In dieser werdet ihr frohlocken, wenn ihr jetzt auf eine kleine Weile Betrübnis dulden müsst in mancherlei Anfechtungen,

damit die Bewährung eures Glaubens um vieles kostbarer als durch Feuer erprobtes Gold erfunden werde zum Lobe und zur Herrlichkeit, und zur Ehre bei der Offenbarung Jesu Christi,

welchen ihr, ohne ihn gesehen zu haben, liebt, an welchen ihr, obwohl ihr ihn nicht schaut, glaubt; weil ihr aber glaubt, werdet ihr frohlocken mit unaussprechlicher und verklärter Freude,

indem ihr das Ziel eures Glaubens erlangen werdet, das Heil der Seelen.

Über dieses Heil suchten und forschten die Propheten, welche von der euch bestimmten Gnade geweissagt haben,

forschend, auf welche Zeit und Umstände der Geist Christi in ihnen hindeute, indem er die Christus bestimmten Leiden und die darauf folgende Herrlichkeit vorherverkündete,

da ihnen geoffenbaret wurde, dass sie nicht für sich selbst, sondern für euch das mitteilten, was euch jetzt durch diejenigen verkündet wird, die euch in Kraft des vom Himmel gesandten Heiligen Geistes das Evangelium verkündigt haben, in welchen Einblick zu haben die Engel begehren.

Leben vor Gott, unserem Vater

(Hebräer 12,14-17)

Darum umgürtet die Lenden eures Gemütes, seid nüchtern, und setzet eure ganze Hoffnung auf die Gnade, welche euch in der Offenbarung Jesu Christi dargeboten wird,

als Kinder des Gehorsams, euer Leben nicht nach den Lüsten gestaltend, wie zuvor in eurer Unwissenheit,

sondern nach dem Vorbilde des Heiligen, der euch berufen hat, erweiset euch auch selbst heilig in allem Wandel;

denn es steht geschrieben: Ihr sollt heilig sein, denn ich bin heilig.

Und wenn ihr den als Vater anruft, der ohne Ansehen der Person einen jeden nach seinen Werken richtet, so wandelt in Furcht, so lange eure Pilgerfahrt währt,

da ihr wisset, dass ihr nicht mit vergänglichen Dingen, Gold oder Silber, erlöst seid von eurem eitlen Wandel, der sich von den Vätern auf euch vererbt hatte,

sondern mit dem kostbaren Blute Christi, als eines unbefleckten und makellosen Lammes;

welcher vor Grundlegung der Welt ausersehen war, in den letzten Zeiten aber um euretwillen offenbart ward,

die ihr durch ihn an Gott glaubt, der ihn von den Toten auferweckt und ihm Herrlichkeit verliehen hat, so dass euer Glaube und eure Hoffnung auf Gott beruht.

Das bleibende Wort

(Jesaja 40,6-8)

Reiniget eure Seelen im Gehorsam der Liebe, zur Bruderliebe, liebet einander innig aus aufrichtigem Herzen;

da ihr ja wiedergeboren seid nicht aus vergänglichem Samen, sondern aus unvergänglichem, durch das Wort des lebendigen Gottes, der in Ewigkeit bleibt.

Denn alles Fleisch ist wie Gras, und alle seine Herrlichkeit wie des Grases Blume; das Gras verdorrt, und seine Blume fällt ab;

das Wort des Herrn aber bleibt in Ewigkeit! Dies aber ist das Wort, welches euch als Evangelium verkündigt worden ist.
